Clinical Studies on Cefotetan





Abstract
Cefotetan is a new, semisynthetic, and potent 7-methoxy cephalosporin(cel/2 hamycine).
The 13 Cases of sepsis and serious infectious diseases, those had been administered by vario¡©us other antibiotics in vain, were successfully treated with Cefotetan at the Department of Internal Medicine and pediatrics, Chonbuk National Univ. Hospital, Chonju, Korea from March to May 1985.
Cefotetan was injected intravenously in dose of, 2-3g/day with the total dose from 7.59 to 24g.
The results were as follows.
I. The over-all effective rate of Cefotan based on clinical judgement and laboratory response was 83.3% in 12 cases of 3 blood dyscrasia with sepsis, 2 hepatobiliary infection,, 3 typhoid fever like dieases, 3 serious pneumonia, and the 2 others including 1 subacute bacterial endocarditis.
2. Acute response group which showed complete recovery from high fever and the abnormal laboratory finding in 5 days on treatment of Cefotetan, was 7 out of 12 cases(58.3 %).
3. Not only leukocytosis, but leukopenia in 3 cases of typhoid fever like dieases was perfe¡©ctly normalized as well as high fever after 5 days treatment with cefotetan.
4. Drug-reated abnormal findings in hematology, liver functiog test, and blood chmistry weremild, But meaningless at the point of view of statistics.
5. Severe headache was observed I case during the treatment, but this sympton was easily controlled by simple symptomatic management.
